Chisora-Fury 2: Two Fighters Too Furious – Analysis and Prediction

fury689By Billy Bogan: Two complicated characters, two tough fighters, but there will be only one winner in this fight… Tyson Fury.

He has not proven himself in any way at world level yet, but Fury has certainly proven to be extremely strong domestically. For this reason he will surely be too good for Dereck Chisora once again on the 26th July.

Chisora has yet to defeat anybody of note himself and has been soundly beaten a few times now. Although he’s much wiser than he was the last time these two men faced off, the fact is that his reach hasn’t grown by 7 or 8 inches- which is what he needs to stand any real chance in this bout. His only real hope is that Fury chooses to open up and brawl, but in reality that’s very unlikely to happen.

There are those who believe that Chisora is getting under Tyson’s skin during the pre-fight build up, but the simple truth here is that there is no real animosity between the two men. It’s very clearly just business.

The Tyson Fury stage show which has landed him in trouble with the British Boxing Board of Control is just a fascade. The recent 30 minute press conference, which ended with Fury threatening to knock out both Chisora and his trainer, Don Charles, was just thinly veiled media hype.

Pre-fight events are designed to get people talking to help sell the show and the way each fighter goes about this is their own prerogative. Fury does his bit by playing up to the camera and utilizing his vile tongue to the maximum effect. Then again he wouldn’t claim to be a contender for the role of Poet Laureate. He’s a fighter born and bred. Fury is just enjoying himself in his own way and whether or not this is to be savored is entirely down to the opinion of each individual viewer.

Later when asked by a disgruntled journalist as to why he can’t stop using obscenities during press conferences he replied: “If you don’t like the [expletive] station change the channel bitch.” Words very reminiscent of Mike Tyson indignantly telling an interviewer to ‘turn off his station’ during one of his notably angry television exchanges. Tyson Fury is clearly a big fan of the man he was named after and he knows that madness combined with aggressive and unpredictable behavior sells very well in this sport.

Ultimately though, with a 22-0 record, he’s a boxer who gets results. Whether or not that is down to the calibre of the men he has faced so far is very much a topic of debate. It seems likely that the gigantic Traveler from Wythenshawe, Manchester will ease to a 12 round points victory by sticking behind his jab and keeping Chisora at a safe distance- just like he did the last time they fought. Viewers should expect nothing more than that this time too. Of course we’re all hoping for a knock out punch from one man or the other, but we’ll have to wait and see.

There are writers complaining about Tyson’s frequent foul language and his school boy sense of humor, but he’s just exaggerating one dark aspect of his nature for the purposes of sales.

Once boxing fans come to recognize that he’s fooling around maybe he will be seen more of as an entertainer. He clearly enjoys playing that character so if you don’t like it you’re better off changing your station.
