Brook: I’m going to prove to the haters I’m the real deal against Porter

brook123By Scott Gilfoid: #1 IBF Kell Brook (32-0, 22 KO’s) says he wants to shut up his critics by beating IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (24-0-1, 15 KO’s) next month on August 16th at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. Brook, 28, is bothered by the fact that few boxing fans give him any chance at beating the American Porter.

Collectively, fans see Brook as faring no better against Porter than Paulie Malignaggi did in getting obliterated in 4 rounds. Many fans think Brook backed out of his scheduled fight against former IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander last year due to a bad case of the nerves.

Brook suffered a couple of injuries to his feet ankle that wiped out his chances of fighting Alexander for his belt. Brook plans on getting through this training camp without any setbacks so that he can face Porter on schedule without any delays.

“I’m going to prove to all the doubters out there, all the haters, that I am the real deal on the big stage. I am the man,” Brook said via IBF TV. “Shawn is the current champion and people are going to write me off, that’s why I am excited because I am going to go out there to put a show on and take Porter out and bring the belt back home.”

The prospects of Brook being able to beat Porter to bring the IBF welterweight title back to the UK aren’t too good. Brook doesn’t have the skills required for an inside type of fight that Porter will no doubt be pushing against him. Brook also is kind of lacking in the experience department because there’s been a failure to launch with him for some reason in terms of the awful match-making.

When combine Brook’s lack of experience with the lack of an inside game, it spells trouble for Brook. He’s going to need to try and score a knockout because if this fight goes to the cards, I see this one ending badly for Brook. Porter is a master boxer with excellent power and hand speed.

It’ll be good to see what Brook is capable of doing after all these years fighting lower level guys. If Brook can pull off an upset in this fight, then he’ll surprise a lot of fans and then be able to tell them that he told them so. But I’m not seeing this as a fight that Brook has much of a chance of winning.
