Brook: I’ll get respect from the haters after Porter fight

brook542By Scott Gilfoid: Kell Brook (32-0, 22 KOs) thinks he’ll soon be getting tons of respect from fans he calls “haters” after he faces IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (24-0-1, 15 KOs) next month on August 16th at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. Brook believes that he’s going to look so good in that fight while beating Porter that the haters will in turn give him respect.

Brook is kind of bent out of shape because there isn’t drug testing that he was hoping to have during the run up to the fight. It’s unknown what happened to the testing that Brook wanted, but perhaps it was too costly to have to pay for the extra testing. After all, we’re not talking about this being a pay-per-view fight or anything like that, so it’s not as if the money if falling from the sky for a fight of this nature.

“I love the pressure and I’m well ready for this title shot,” Brook said to IFL TV. “I’m injury free. I’m fit, well and strong. I’m going over to California and I’m winning that world title. There’s not going to be any pull outs. I’ve never pulled out of a fight. I was born for this. I want to fight the best out there and you’re going to see me at my best in this fight. When I get to California, I’ll be watching a little bit [of Porter fight video], a maximum of 5 or 6 rounds. I’m going over there and taking it [Porter’s IBF title] regardless. Even those haters out there, when they see me perform, they’re going to give me respect.”

Well, I don’t know that the haters are going to respect Brook anymore after his fight with Porter than they do now, because the outlook for the fight is pretty bleak for Brook. First off, he’s to U.S to fight in front of Porter’s fans, not his own, and he’s not going to have the crowd on his side for this fight. Second off, Brook is facing one of the best inside fighters in the welterweight division in Porter without having the skills to deal with that kind of attack. And thirdly, Brook doesn’t have the experience to be facing a guy as good as Porter.

Brook is a fighter that has been brought a long kind of slowly by his promoters. He’s been a pro for 10 years, but for some reason they never matched him against a good fighter during all those years until now. That’s not good for Brook. This is going to be too big of a step up in class for him and I don’t see him being ready for it.
