Tyson Fury targeting Deontay Wilder for fight in UK after Chisora fight

deontay1By Scott Gilfoid: Tyson Fury (22-0, 16 KO’s) wants to lure #1 WBC Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KO’s) over to the UK so that he can try and beat him this year. Fury, 25, is going to have a lot of time on his hands after his fight against Dereck Chisora (20-4, 13 KO’s) on July 26th before he finally gets a crack at IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion for a world title shot.

So instead of sitting around and doing nothing, Fury wants to try and take the hard hitting Deontay’s scalp in a fight in the UK. Not surprisingly, Fury isn’t mentioning wanting to get a fight against David Haye after the two bad experiences he had in trying to line up a fight against him.

“I want to fight Deontay Wilder for the world title at Old Trafford,” Fury said via the manchestereveningnews.co.uk. “It’s a fight that would catch people’s imagination. They would think he could beat me and everyone would turn out. It could be a big fight in England or America, but it’s not worth doing until there is a world title involved.”

A Fury-Deontay fight would be huge in the UK, and they should have already fought last year when Deontay was ready to go over there and face the 6’9” Fury. But instead of taking the dangerous fought against Deontay, Fury ended up wasting the majority of the year trying to get a fight against Haye, and then watching both of those fights crumble into nothingness due to Haye’s injuries.

If Fury beats Chisora in their WBO heavyweight eliminator bout, then it puts Fury in a position where he can fight Deontay and still get a world title shot against Wladimir even if Deontay knocked him out in the 1st round. Fury would still get a big payday fight against Wladimir, and it would be a win-win situation for him because he would be getting two big paydays. Once Chisora is out of the way, there’s really no big names for Fury to fight in the near future other than Deontay. Anthony Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn won’t let him fight Fury at this early stage of his career, and there’s no one else left for Fury to fight but Deontay while he waits for the Klitschko fight.

I don’t think Fury would stand even a ghost of a chance against a talent like Deontay, because he’ll get nailed with a big right hand from Deontay in the 1st and that’ll be it. But Fury will at least earn a lot of respect for taking the fight.

Deontay probably won’t have to worry about the judges in this fight because the chances of the fight with Fury going to the cards would be extremely low.
