kessler#8By Cameron Gillon: Four time super middleweight world champion Mikkel Kessler has recently said that he would like to return to the ring. The last time we saw him in the ring was in May 2013 against WBA and IBF world champion Carl Froch at the O2 arena London.

The fight was a unification fight where Kessler was then the WBA champion and Froch was the IBF world champion. Carl Froch won the fight on points in what a all out war. Let’s not forget that Mikkel Kessler won the first fight in Denmark as part of the super six tournament eventually won by American Andre Ward. This left the two fighters with one win a piece.

Mikkel Kessler has expressed his desire to get a third fight with Carl Froch since Froch knocked out George Groves at Wembley stadium last month. Let’s not forget Kessler hasn’t fought in 13 months which is a long time out of the ring especially as he is no young fighter coming through, you could argue he was past his best after his loss to Joe Calzaghe in 2007, and if the fight was to go ahead then it wouldn’t be until November/December of this year which would mean he hasn’t been in the ring for just under two years. He has said himself he doesn’t want a tune up fight and wants to get straight back to a world title and believes he has unfinished business with Carl Froch.

I don’t like this idea at all, i think Carl Froch best option is to fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in Las Vegas, the experience he craves so much is to fight in the boxing capital of Las Vegas, and no doubt Chavez is the fighter that would be the best chance of the Vegas dream. If he was to do this and win he can then retire of winning his two last fights by selling out the biggest stadium in Britain 80,000, thousand at Wembley to then defending his titles against a very strong talented fighter in Chavez in Vegas.

Kessler’s next fight should be against James DeGale or a young fighter that has a big future ahead, I would say George Groves but certainly a fight for Groves against Kessler coming off two losses to Froch could be to much, as Groves needs to build back up for his own confidence and needs to have two or three fights before getting into the ring with a Froch, Kessler, Ward again.
