price5(Photo credit: Team Sauerland) By Scott Gilfoid: David Price (17-2, 15 KO’s) and his 39-year-old opponent Yaroslav Zavorotnyi (16-6, 14 KO’s) both weighed in on Friday for their fight on Saturday night for their 10 round bout at the Sport and Congress Center, Schwerin, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. Price weighed in at 114.5 kg [252.4], whereas Zavorotny came in at slightly less at 111.8 kg [246.4].

The Price- Zavorotnyi will be taking place on the undercard of WBA light heavyweight champion Juergen Braehmer’s title defense against Roberto Bolonti. This is the same fighter that Tony Bellew easily beat by a 12 round unanimous decision 2 years ago, and now he’s a getting a title shot in an optional defense by Braehmer. It looks like Braehmer is taking no chances with his title..

‘’I feel in great shape. I am ready for Saturday night,” Price said. “Zavorotnyi is a tough guy and I will treat him with the same respect I do every opponent. This is yet another step forward in my rebuilding process. I look forward to completing my European adventure in style!’’

Zavorotnyi can punch a little, although he’s never beaten anyone good during his career. I wouldn’t be surprised if Price hits the deck once or twice in this fight if Zavorotnyi is able to connect with one of his big right hands. I mean, he may not be a high quality opponent, but if Zavorotnyi lands one of his best right hands on Price’s chin or around his ear area, we could see Price flopping around on the canvas like a fish put of water like he did in his stoppage loss against 42-year-old Tony Thompson last year in their first fight in February.

If Price gets knocked out by Zavorotnyi, I think it might be a good idea for Price to hang up his gloves permanently rather than hanging around and fighting more 3rd tier fighters. His German promoters at Sauerland Events might decide to cut him loose rather than wasting time hoping to build him into something. A loss to Zavorotnyi on Saturday would make it painfully clear that Price doesn’t have the chin to make it to the highest levels in the heavyweight division.

Other weights on the card:

Jürgen Brähmer 174.4 vs. Roberto Feliciano Bolonti 174.2

Cecilia Braekhus 141 vs. Jessica Balogun 145.2
