dawson2By Allan Fox: Former light heavyweight world champion Chad Dawson (31-3, 17 KO’s) will be trying to turn his career around on Saturday night against George Blades (23-5, 16 KO’s) in a 10 round bout on Showtime Extreme.

Dawson lost his last two fights to Adonis Stevenson and Andre Ward, and now it’s important that he wins that fight so that he can work his way back into title contention for another world title shot.

Dawson still has the talent to be a world champion at 175, as long as he avoids Stevenson and WBO champion Sergey Kovalev.

The Dawson-Blades fight will be staged at the StubHub Center, in Carson, California, USA. The Dawson vs. Blades fight will be taking place on the undercard of the Robert Guerrero vs. Yoshiro Kamegai card. The telecast starts on Showtime at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.

Before his losses to Stevenson and Andre Ward in his last two fights, Dawson was recognizes as the best fighter in the 175 pound division. Things have changed now after those losses, as boxing fans see Dawson as an over the hills and/or a damaged fighter who has lost it.

“I’m coming off losses in my last two fights, but nothing’s changed,” said Dawson. “I’m just back to being myself. I’m working hard with Eddie and doing the right things. I’ve been training for this fight for about two months. I’m getting ready for the second chapter of my career. I’m back to Bad Chad.”

Dawson is going to need to be a lot more careful from now on because he was getting rocked in his last two fights by hooks and uppercuts, and it’s possible that his chin isn’t the same as it once was after those defeats. He’s got to start using his long reach and his boxing skills once again so that he can work his way into a position where he can challenge wither Bernard Hopokins or Jurgen Braehmer for their titles. Dawson already beat Hopkins in 2012 and he can possibly do it again if given another chance.
