guerrero444By Dan Ambrose: Robert “The Ghost’ Guerero’s adviser Al Haymon will be the one that makes the decision whether or not Guerrero will be fighting on Golden Boy Promotions cards on the future, according to Guerrero’s manager Bobby Santos. Guerrero fought on the Golden Boy card last Saturday night in beating Yoshihiro Kamegai by a 12 round decision at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

With Guerrero signed with Haymon, it’s now up in the air whether he’ll be fighting on Golden Boy’s cards moving forward. The Guerrero-Kamegai fight hard been set in place for a while now since before former Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer stepped down as the CEO of the company.

Asked whether Guerrero will be fighting on Golden Boy’s cards in the future, Santos said “We’re going to leave that up to Al Haymon, and whatever he decides that’s what we’re going to go with. He’s done a great job for us, everything he’s said he’s going to get done for us he delivers. Obviously, we’ll be involved in the decision making, there’s no doubt about that. But at the end of the day, Al’s been great to us and we’ll defer to him on that decision.”

Haymon got Guerrero the fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr recently. That was a great fight for Guerrero. And last Saturday night, Guerrero was matched against Kamegai, and that was a good match-up too for the Gilroy native. Haymon seems to do a good job of knowing the limitations of his fighters. Had Haymon matched Guerrero against someone like Keith Thurman, Shawn Porter or Amir Khan last Saturday, he likely would have lost to them by a landslide decision. But the decision to have him fight Kamegai was a good one, because it keeps Guerrero’s hopes alive for now of getting a rematch against Mayweather or a fight against Manny Pacquiao.

If Guerrero no longer fights on Golden Boy’s cards, then Haymon is going to need to set up his own fights to promote the cards or use another promoter such as Lou Dibella to place his fighters on his cards.
