Mayweather Sr: Floyd Jr would pick Khan apart; he’s a nobody

khan62By Scott Gilfoid: Trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. doesn’t see newly crowned WBC Silver welterweight champion Amir Khan (29-3, 19 KO’s) as being any kind of threat to beating his son WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (46-0, 26 KO’s) in the future when/if they get around to fighting one another. Mayweather Sr. believes that his son would nail Khan at will with shots, and the fight would be too easy.

Khan won’t be getting the fight with Mayweather in 2014, though, because Floyd Sr. says that Mayweather Jr. will be fighting a rematch against Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 KO’s) next September, and that it’ll be a much different fight than it was last night in which Mayweather had to struggle to beat Maidana.

“Khan ain’t nobody. Floyd would pick him apart,” Floyd Sr. said. “He [Khan] can want that fight all he wants to, but he won’t want it after he gets it.”

Well, Khan might not get it at all if Golden Boy Promotions matches him against someone that is actually good for a change instead of them trotting out an old name like Luis Collazo and trying to pass him off as a top grade opponent for Khan. Golden Boy hasn’t matched Khan up with a good opponent since he was knocked out in the 4th round by Danny Garcia in 2012. Since that time, Khan was put in with a past his prime 34-year-old Julio Diaz, 33-year-old Collazo and a little 5’5″, light hitting Carlos Molina. Will Golden Boy break that pattern for Khan’s next fight by putting him in with a good fighter for a change in Shawn Porter or Keith Thurman in order for Khan to prove that he deserves the Mayweather fight? I’m not holding my breath waiting for that to happen. Like I said in my last article, I believe Golden Boy will match Khan against the ring rusty/light hitting Robert Guerrero instead of Porter or Thurman.

Floyd Sr. said that Mayweather will fight a lot different for his rematch with Maidana, saying “You’ll see the difference in Floyd. You’ll see a different Floyd.”

Mayweather will likely box Maidana the next time around, and beat him without being touched for the entire fight.
