Whether you believed that Mayweather won or not was largely a subjective thing, because it seems that boxing fans are pretty much split right now about who they saw at the winner of the fight. The judges scored it for Floyd 116-112, 117-111, and 114-114.

Mayweather might need to convince his promoter Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions that it would be a good idea for a Maidana rematch to take place, because Schaefer was really high on Amir Khan’s performance against Luis Collazo in the co-feature bout on the card. Schaefer kept going back to Khan as a possible opponent for Mayweather’s next fight, even after Khan said that he can’t fight next September due to Ramadan.

When Mayweather was asked if he’d be interested in fighting Khan next, Mayweather ignored the question and instead chose to introduce the top fighters in the audience. Mayweather’s reaction to the question spoke volumes, because it seemed pretty clear at that moment that Mayweather isn’t interested in the Khan fight at this time.

Mayweather said “You’re a hell of a fighter. The rematch won’t be the same fight in September. I could have made the fight a lot easier if I had wanted to. If we do do the fight in September, I don’t want Tony Weeks. Miguel Cotto is a tougher fight, and he hits harder [than Maidana]. I could have made this fight really easy, but it would have been really boring. I gave the fans what they wanted to see.”

Mayweather mixed in praise with criticism of Maidana after the fight, and he seemed to change his views depending on the questions that were asked of him.
