Khan thinks Mayweather is ducking him

khan6676By Scott Gilfoid: Now that Amir Khan (29-3, 19 KO’s) has fought on Floyd Mayweather Jr’s card in beating one of the fighters from the past in Luis Collazo, Khan wants Mayweather to fight him now, and it seems to be bothering Khan to no end that Mayweather has given no hint of doing that. Khan thinks that Mayweather has no intention of fighting him because he’s worried about Khan’s fighting style

After watching Khan’s fight against Collazo, I think there might be some actual worry by Mayweather about a future fight against Khan, but not for the same reason that Khan thinks. If Mayweather is ducking Khan out of concern about what could happen in a fight against him, it would likely be more due to the running, shoving and pulling down on the head that Khan showed in the Collazo fight. .

Khan got away with a ton of head-locks, shoving and holding in the Collazo fight. And his constant movement was ugly enough on it’s own to be something that would scare off fighters, but with the addition of the holding, head-locks, shoving and bending Collazo’z head each round, it might have scared Mayweather off. Why would he want to fight someone who does that for 12 rounds? If the idea is to entertain boxing fans, why would Mayweather want to fight someone who is shoving, holding, wrestling and running all night?

“Even if I did agree to a September date, it won’t be me,” Khan said to the media on Monday. “He wants to have a rematch with Maidana, I heard. He is trying his best to avoid the fight between me and him. I don’t think he wants the fight because styles make fights. I really think he knows there will be a lot of problems he’ll have in the fight with the speed, the movement, the explosiveness, the footwork, and plus the power as well.”

Mayweather says he’s not sure about who he’ll end up fighting in his next fight in September, but it won’t be Khan that’s for sure. Khan took himself out of the picture by saying he can’t fight in September because of Ramadan.

Khan needs to make adjustments to his fighting style to stop with the holding, running, shoving, head locks and bending of his opponents’ heads if he wants to get the bigger fights, because I can’t see the top stars wanting to fight someone like that. If a referee isn’t going to do their job of preventing those things that Khan does, then why would anyone popular like Mayweather want to fight him?

If there was a good referee like Jay Nady working a Khan-Mayweather fight to take points off from Khan left and right for those tactics, then I could see Mayweather possibly agreeing to fight Khan if he were to beat an actual relevant fighter to get a shot against him like Keith Thurman. But there’s no guarantee who the referee would be for a Khan-Mayweather fight. For all we know it could be another referee that doesn’t enforce rules against constant clinching, shoving, pulling down on the head and head locks. In that case, Mayweather could find himself being grabbed and shoved around the ring all night long if he were to fight Khan. I don’t think Mayweather needs that kind of fight. Let Khan fight Marcos Maidana so the two of them can rough each other up all night long.
