Froch vs. Groves II: Will it go to the distance?

groves6By Gerardo Granados: A hungry young lion versus a proud veteran lion king will battle to claim who the leader of the pack is. Past November of 2013 in Manchester, United Kingdom, referee Howard John Foster halted the bout between the WBA Super World – IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch and contender George Groves. And many fight fans believe the stoppage was premature. I also believe so, but the referee must protect a fighter and if he thinks a prizefighter has had enough then he has the authority to stop the fight.

I strongly believe it is better to stop a fight early than one punch late. As a fight fan I look up to this kind of fights. Yes, strategic boxing matches are entertaining but nothing can be compared to what we could get to see next May 31 at the Wembley Stadium, London, United Kingdom; this is a real fight and frankly I doubt it will be necessary to score it.

I´ve recently seen the “hand shake” between these two fine sons of boxing and I just loved it, the attitude and the look on their faces are the prelude of a battle inside that ring and fight fans better not miss the chance to watch this fight. I think the hand shake fired back on Groves who initiated the hostilities by pulling Froch, who controlled the young lad pulling him to his side forcing him to bend before him. Then Froch calmly sit in control of the situation leaving Groves upset for a few second trying to decide what to do, no need to say that their face expression tell there is no love at all.

On their first meeting Groves came close to win but the stoppage has allowed us to enjoy a couple of extra rounds of an entertaining fight. Both fighters can hurt each other and finish the fight in any round but they also could adjust; maybe work on the outside and try to box more, to be more careful when charging avoiding keeping their chin too high, to be patient to counter and create openings, to move their head or to slip the big right, keep their guard up and to avoid been too frontal; but that would spoil what we the fight fans expect to see. The first fight was great and I suppose the rematch will be even better, but will it go to the distance?
