By Chris Williams: WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (46-0, 26 KO’s) wanted to give his boxing fans a sneak peak behind the scenes in him getting ready for his fight last Saturday night against former WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 KO’s). The video shows a very serious Mayweather hard at work in training for the fight, doing his gym and roadwork with his personal masseuse nearby to keep him loose.

Fans also got to see Mayweather the jetsetter flying around. You see Floyd posing by a beautiful car that looks to be a Lamborghini. You get to see the bling as well, and the beauiful women that surround Mayweather wherever he goes. The Money Team.

With that kind of life, it must have been difficult for Mayweather to stay focused on his training. With the kind of riches that Mayweather has, it’s got to take a superman effort for Mayweather to get himself to set aside all of the extracurricular attractions to get himself back to the gym to get ready for his fights. But of course with the lure of $70 million paydays, it helps Mayweather find the motivation to do whatever training that he has to do for his fights.

Mayweather was in great shape for the Maidana fight last Saturday night. Mayweather could have boxed him on his toes for the entire fight without Maidana touching him, but he fought the way he did for his fans.

“I can really just stay off the ropes totally and just box and move, and when he gets close to me, tie him up. I could have done that all night,” Mayweather said.

It’s too bad that Mayweather didn’t fight Maidana that way because he’s now got a legion of critics who doubt believe that Mayweather could have fought that way. They don’t buy what Mayweather says about him being able to box Maidana from the outside. The fans think Maidana forced Mayweather to fight the way he did due to his pressure.

Mayweather doesn’t have anything to prove though, and he’d be wasting his time if he goes over old ground to fight Maidana in an immediate rematch. Mayweather doesn’t need to be taking retread opponents, because he’s got better things to do than to be fighting the same guy 24/7. Manny Pacquiao fights the same guys a lot, but Mayweather doesn’t need to fall into that trap. That’s a dead end.
