Chisora: Fury’s getting knocked out in the 1st round

chisora434By Scott Gilfoid: In a battle of British heavyweights in the WBO eliminator bout, #2 WBO, #3 WBA, #3 IBF, #8 WBC, Dereck Chisora (20-4, 13 KO’s) is predicting a really early knockout of #5 WBO, #8 IBF, #12 WBC, #14 WBA, Tyson Fury (22-0, 16 KO’s) in their domestic clash on July 26th at the Phones 4u Arena in Manchester, UK.

Chisora thinks he’s going to KO Fury in the 1st round, while Fury is predicting a 5th round TKO. The more likely result will be a dull 12 round decision like the last time the two fighters met up back in 2011 when Fury totally schooled Chisora in beating him by a 12 round decision. Chisora was too short to land his looping shots, and without them landing, he was pretty much a cooked goose in the fight.

“I’m not going to cry over spilt milk,” Chisora said via ESPN about his one-sided loss to Fury in 2011. “I’m looking to the future now. He’s going to knock me out in 5 but he’s going to get knocked out in the first round.”

Chisora isn’t a big knockout puncher, so it’s kind of hard to take him serious. Yeah, he can knock guys out, but we’re talking 3rd tier heavyweights. Chisora hasn’t knocked out any good heavyweights during his career. In fact, he’s lost to the only halfway decent heavyweights he’s fought during his career, and he’s come empty big time in trying to knock them out.

The sanctioning bodies have done both Chisora and Fury huge favors by ranking them high based on their wins over weak opposition. What they should be doing is waiting until the two of them actually beat some good heavyweights before giving them a top 15 ranking. To get his #2 ranking by the WBO, Chisora beat the following heavyweights: Kevin Johnson, Ondrej Pala, Edmund Gerber, Malik Scott and Hector Alfredo Avila.

Based on those wins, I think Chisora deserves a bottom 15 ranking by the WBO, but certainly not a No.2 ranking. That’s way too high given the weak opposition. It’s not just the guys that he’s not faced, but it’s also how Chisora has looked in all of those fights. He’s not impressed. I saw a lot of fouls in terms of rabbit punches in many of those fights, and also there’s the questionable 9 count stoppage of Malik Scott that Chisora got.

Fury hasn’t faced anyone good either, and he’s definitely not shined. He looked flabby in his last fight and struggled to beat Joey Abell last February. In Fury’s fight before that, he was dropped by former cruiserweight Steven Cunningham and badly hurt in their fight last year in April.
