A loss for Mayweather Jr. Is a Must

maidana525By Alon Calinao Dy: Floyd Mayweather Jr. (46-0, 26 KO’s) and Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KO’s), are both considered as pound-for-pound boxers in the world today. They are excellent fighters in the sport of boxing that many boxers want to fight them for fortune and fame.

It seems to me that the only way to get a Mayweather Jr. versus Pacquiao fight is to take away that perfect record of Floyd. In my opinion, Mayweather Jr. cares so much about his undefeated status in boxing. If judges have given the decision to Marcus Maidana last night, I suppose we have now the fight that we’ve been waiting for a long time.

Mayweather Jr. has so much ego that he doesn’t want to take risk in a fight. Now that he recently wins the fight, he can say whatever he wants to say to Pacquiao. He’d demand for a bigger purse or ask for many things that would eventually frustrate Pacquiao’s camp. I guess he does not care about what the boxing fans are begging him to do. He doesn’t even bother to possibly think that one day he is going to face off Pacquiao. What really matters to him according to most boxing analysts is to retire in the sweet science without a defeat.

A loss for Mayweather Jr. is one way to get the dream match done and change his perspectives of fighting Pacquiao. For now, he is the boss. Maybe if Mayweather Jr. has a defeat, he would be forced to challenge the Filipino boxing champ. I think this is the only way to make the fight happen.

Today the world is still waiting for this possible match. It is difficult to assume that these future hall-of-fame boxers would finally meet in the ring someday. Lots of boxing fans have done this before, but they have lost hope for it. I sometimes think what if Mayweather Jr. has a loss already, do you think he will still demand for so many things?

The main reason why this works out, it’s for little Floyd to experience a downfall because he thinks himself as “The face of boxing.” That’s why he has many unrealistic demands for a Pacquiao showdown. I think a single beat is the defining moment for Mayweather Jr. to make the greatest fight of the century into reality.
