pac3By Alon Calinao Dy: Filipino pride and global boxing icon Manny Pacquiao is a special mention by US Pres. Barack Obama on his visit today in the Philippines. The entire Filipino community is very happy about this because this strengthens the relationship between the two great nations- USA and Philippines. The US Pres. admires Pacquiao for uniting all Filipinos from all parts of the world when he has an upcoming fight.

It is true that Pacquiao has been known for his ferocious and aggressive style in the sweet science. Outside the boxing ring, lots of people admire him because he remains a down-to-earth person despite his greatness and fame in the sport of boxing.

I believe years from now, he will be the most exciting boxer in the world. In my opinion, he is beyond the great legendary boxers like Sugar Ray Robinson, Muhammad Ali, Henry Armstrong, Roberto Duran, and even Floyd Mayweather, Jr. Of course I respect and I do not remove all their achievements, but Pacquiao has transcended boxing that no one could ever do.

It’s not all about his eight world titles in eight different weight divisions, but it’s without a doubt how he gains appreciation and respect from his opponents after the fight.

The undeniable truth is that the eight-division world champ has made boxing the most popular sport in the Philippines and in other countries. Even the popular reality TV show Pinoy Big Brother 2014, Pacquiao is still the trending story for aspiring young artists.

At this moment, there are lots of different sports and people have divided attention to which sport they are going to watch. It is because Pacquiao who draws millions of people from all walks of life to the sport because of his fighting style in boxing.

I think people should remember that Pacquiao is the only Asian boxer that has made it this far. I guess years from now, the Filipino icon will always be remembered as one of the greatest boxers, if not the best fighter that has ever lived in the world. We can rarely see a boxer now who has the charismatic ability to please the most powerful and influential person (US Pres. Barack Obama) in the world today.
