To beat Mayweather, Maidana’s only chance is a knockout

mayweather61By Yannis Mihanos: In two weeks’ time from today the number 1 pound-for-pound king Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr (45-0, 26 KO’s) will face WBA welterweight title holder Marcos “El Chino Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) on May 3rd at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada on a fight televised on pay per view by Showtime TV channel.

The 37-year-old Mayweather is a heavy favorite for the fight to defeat the 31-year-old Maidana and do it in a convince fashion. Maidana’s recent winning streak (4 victories, 3 by way of KO) has brought him to this big stage.

Maidana has lost three fights in losing a war with Amir Khan in a fight of the year bout in 2010, a disappointing 10 round defeat to Devon Alexander in 2012 and a loss by Andreas Kotelnik in 2009.

Against the defense genius Mayweather, Maidana stands no chance winning a decision. The difference in skills between the two fighters is huge.
In Mayweather’s last fight against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Mayweather was rarely hit at all by the 23-year-old Canelo. Mayweather made Canelo miss all night with his shots.

Floyd’s quick hand and body movement makes him virtually a ghost for any opponent, and that’s a going to be a problem for the Argentinian Maidana.
Maidana’s last victory was against Broner last December in winning a 12 round decision. The victory by Maidana has a lot of people thinking that he can do the same against Floyd on May 3rd, but that is extremely unlikely to happen.

Broner’s feet and body movement is nothing similar of Mayweather’s, and Maidana is going to find that out quickly when he steps inside the ring at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. There is a huge difference of skill between Mayweather and Broner.

Maidana has big problems when he faces fast opponents, as we saw in his losses to Khan, Alexander and Kotelnik. It’s going to be next to impossible for Maidana to outbox one of the most elusive guys in boxing history against Mayweather. In fact, I think it’s nearly impossible.

It all comes down to this: For Maidana to win on May 3rd, he must stop Mayweather by the way of knockout. Maidana is knocking out his opponents due to his power, and that gives him a chance. He has the raw KO power and he must use it.

There is just no other way for Maidana to win but to KO Mayweather. If that doesn’t happen then I see Mayweather winning comfortably all twelve rounds on points.
