Peter Fury gushes about how Tyson F has improved

fury66By Scott Gilfoid: While many boxing fans think heavyweight contender Tyson Fury (22-0, 16 KO’s) looks to be going downhill recently in almost getting knocked out by small heavyweight Steve Cunningham and thought he looked fat and slow in his recent win over C level fighter Joey Abell, Fury’s trainer Peter Fury thinks he’s looking great.

Peter sees Tyson as having improved from his previous fight against Dereck Chisora (20-4, 13 KO’s) from three years ago, and he believes that he’s ready to be taken off the leash right now to tear Chisora apart in their rematch.

Peter’s going to have to wait a little while longer, though, as the rematch between these two British heavyweights isn’t until July 26th at the Phones 4u Arena (formerly M.E.N Arena), Manchester, United Kingdom.

“I’m so impressed with the way Tyson is looking right now, I’ve never seen him looking so dedicated, focused and determined for a fight. He’s in unbelievable shape, his mind is razor shape and he’s ready to fight,” Said Fury. “I’d certainly let Tyson in the ring with Chisora right now, it would be like putting a lion and a gazelle in a cage together, it would be a massacre.”

Somehow I don’t picture Fury as a lion when I watch him fight, especially in his last fight against Abell. Fury reminded me a little more slow-moving animal, but I just didn’t picture in my mind the thought of a lion in watching him getting nailed by a very average Abell. Peter insists that Fury is fit now, and is ready to get in the ring with Chisora. The thing is there’s still three entire months to go before the Chisora rematch, and I have a feeling Fury may end up overdoing it with his training and come in looking too thin, and maybe even a little wasted looking. In Fury’s fight with Cunningham, he looked too thin, and had even less power than he normally has.

That obviously wasn’t the reason why he got dropped, but it probably didn’t help him in the power department. Fury needs every ounce of strength that he can get in order to score knockouts with his slapping punches, and you hate to see him going overboard with the training. Fury’s manager did him no favors by scheduling his rematch with Frampton so far into the future without having a fight close by.

“Not only is Tyson too good for Chisora, he’s too good for any heavyweight out there,” Peter Fury said. “You’re looking at the new world champion.”
I hope Peter doesn’t end up too devastated when/if Fury gets blasted out for the first time in his career when he faces IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in the future. I believe that Fury can beat Chisora again, because he’s nothing special. But Fury can’t beat Wladimir, as he’s too limited in the power and talent department. I would also say that Fury can’t beat at least 10, possibly 12 other heavyweights in the division.

I give Fury’s promoter credit for matching him up against guys that he could actually beat like Kevin Johnson, Abell, Martin Rogan, Vinny Maddalone, Cunninham, and Chisora. But those are limited heavyweights and none of them are even close to the better heavyweights like Deontay Wilder, Wladimir, Bryant Jennings, Alexander Povetkin, Bermane Stiverne, Chris Arreola and Mike Perez.
