Pacquiao vs. Bradley 2: Will there be another controversial ending?

By Yannis Mihanos: All boxing fans remember the first fight between Manny Pacquaio and Tim Bradley in 2012, but not because of the excitement that gave but because of the controversy that came from the fight.

Fighters give their best in the ring, but it’s up to the judges to decide who wins or lose. Boxing has its dark side, and at times things happen that are difficult to explain.

The reason it’s difficult to explain is because it does not involve the fighters, but rather the higher powers that are more difficult to control. It is obvious to me that the boxing system is obsolete.

The 3 judges can be easily influenced and alter the outcome of the matches. It is also difficult for a judge to be all around the ring, because that’s the job of the referee. But that’s plain wrong. It’s easy for a judge to make mistake.

You can’t sit on a chair and expect to see everything that’s going on the ring. You can’t have the total view. That’s how paper champs escape defeat; they shadow box, but in the eyes of the judge they’re scoring points. Other fighters play it clever and do things behind the back of the referee and the judges and end up stealing points and hitting low.
In my opinion there should be an electronic eye much like the tennis “Hawk eye” or a separate room where the judges can watch the fight undisturbed from both angles.

Unfortunately we have to stick with the current judging system, the one that still allows human mistakes and purposeful errors.

In this Saturday night’s Pacquiao vs. Bradley 2 fight, I hope to witness a true boxing contest that finishes and stays in the ring. I hope also that the judges will do their work as good as they should always do.
