Mayweather to work on plan for Maidana fight with dad and uncle

mayweather5433By Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) says he’s going to be working with his father Floyd Sr. and uncle Roger Mayweather to come up with the perfect plan for him to beat the hard hitting Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) on May 3rd when the two of them meet up on Showtime pay per view. Mayweather Jr. is very way of Maidana’s power after seeing what he did to Adrien Broner recently, and he wants to make sure that he doesn’t let the Argentinian land his big shots when they face each other next month at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“Maidana is special because he can beat me with one punch,” Mayweather said via WBCboxing. “I’ll sit down with my dad and Uncle Roger to work on the plan, so Maidana will become they number 46 who tried.”

The thing with Maidana is that he throws everything with maximum power, and he tends to throw a lot of power shots from weird angles that Mayweather might not be expecting. With Maidana’s looping punches, he can land even when you don’t expect him do. Mayweather needs to stay on the move and not take chances with him because he’s a more dangerous opponent than Saul “Canelo” Alvarez was for Mayweather.

With Canelo, it was easy to predict what he would do in the ring because he was copying Mayweather’s fighting style. It a simple matter of Mayweather leaning back to avoid Canelo’s jabs, left hooks and right hands. But with Maidana, he’s going to be coming forward at all times looking to take Mayweather’s head off, and that’s going to make things much more difficult for Mayweather to deal with.

“I think this is a great fight for me and he deserves the opportunity to see if he can do what 45 others have tried to do before him – beat me,” Mayweather said.

Maidana’s power, youth and aggressiveness makes him the most dangerous opponent for Mayweather in the entire welterweight division. He’s not small and wild like Manny Pacquiao, and he’s not slow and weak like Tim Bradley. Maidana is dangerous simply because he never stops coming forward and he’s going to be looking to KO Mayweather once he gets him in punching range. Maidana will cut off the ring on Mayweather sooner or later and land one of his big shots. Mayweather will need to be able to take Maidana’s best punches, because this is not going to be a shutout or no hitter.

No one gets through a fight with Maidana without getting nailed. Mayweather won’t resort to holding 10 times per round like the last guy that beat Maidana in 2012 when he was beaten by Devon Alexander. Mayweather won’t fight like that because it would be a cheap victory, and the fans would boo him for 12 rounds. Mayweather is going to look to beat Maidana with his hand speed, precision punching, movement and defensive skills. It’s going to be a fight, and I believe it’ll be one of Mayweather’s best performances of his career. Maidana will bring out the best in him.
