Marquez chooses Alvarado, avoids Pacquiao

marquez45By Alon Calinao Dy: Mexican Professional Boxer Juan Manuel Marquez chooses to fight a lesser threat opponent Mike Alvarado than his long-time rival Manny Pacquiao at The Forum in Inglewood, California on May 17, 2014.

Filipino boxing champ Pacquiao is looking for a fifth bout when Marquez has closed the door of opportunity to show to the world that it was not a stroke of luck when he defeated the Filipino congressman by knockout. The truth is, a fight between these veteran boxers would definitely cement their legacies in the sport of boxing.

However, what are the true reasons why Marquez is avoiding Pacquiao after he knocked him out? Is it because of money issues? Perhaps, that would be another reason why Marquez does not want to fight Pacquiao again. But Top Rank promoter Bob Arum had already offered Marquez more than doubled his last payday when he fought Pacquiao years ago. But still, he preferred to engage with Bradley, who he thought he would have a big chance of winning, which only led him in a huge disappointment and embarrassment when Bradley got an unanimous decision by a close margin.

But, what is really the real reason here why Marquez is not aiming for another epic battle against the Filipino boxing icon? Is it because of his secured legacy? For sure, Marquez has been hearing a lot of humors from his people. If he believes that he will always be remembered because he defeated The Great Pacquiao, well, I think that belief remains false to this day. Almost everyone seems to understand that he won by chance.

I don’t think Marquez is scared of Pacquiao either, because they have fought several times before, but I do believe that the Mexican fighter is afraid for another loss against the Filipino champ. Maybe, he worries about his health and family, just like Floyd Mayweather Jr., who explained his side of not fighting Pacquiao in one of his interviews.

But for the love of boxing and for those fans around the world who love to see them square off once more, Marquez versus Pacquiao fight V should happen this year, if Floyd Mayweather Jr. continues to avoid Pacquiao. I am sure viewers will see another close and real fight between the stylish slugger and counter puncher, because both fighters deserve respect, and still, they’ve got unfinished business with each other.
