Malignaggi: Porter has to make it a rugged fight because he can’t box with me

malign52525By Chris Williams: Former two division world champion Paulie Malignaggi (3-5, 7 KO’s) isn’t worried at all about his title shot against IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (23-0-1, 14 KO’s) this Saturday night, because he doesn’t see the former Manny Pacquiao sparring partner as having the talent to compete with him in their fight. Porter and Malignaggi will be fighting on the undercard of the Bernard Hopkins vs. Beibut Shumenov fight at the DC Armory in Washington, DC.

“The more Shawn tries the more he’s going to pay and then we’ll see if it goes the distance,” Malignaggi said at today’s weigh-in. “I think Shawn knows he’s not the more talented fighter of the two. Shawn knows he’s got to make it a rugged fight because he can’t box with me.”

Porter isn’t buying what Malignaggi is selling, because he sees him as not having anything that he can’t adapt to and deal with in this fight.

“God blessed me with some tools that Ricky Hatton had and Miguel Cotto had, all the goes that Paulie has fought,” Porter said. “Even though he has some experience, I have experience too. We’re going to bring our toolbox to the ring, and we’re going to go to work. If all he’s relaying on his experience, we’ll make some adjustments. We got this one in the bag. We didn’t train for this one to go the distance. We trained for a stoppage.”

Malignaggi will need to bring his ‘A’ game on Saturday night because Porter is going to put it on him in a big way. We could see Malignaggi get finished off in this fight and sent out to pasture in getting torn apart by the younger lion. Malignaggi was already beaten by Adrien Broner last year. While Malignaggi was able to come back and beat a shot Zab Judah, the victory was meaningless due to Judah being many years past his prime and no longer capable of pulling the trigger on his punches.

For Porter to win this fight, he just needs to fight the same way he did in his bout with Devon Alexander last December by putting a lot of pressure on Malignaggi and watching him fold up from the pressure.
