Khan says he won’t be fighting in September

Amir Kahn(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) says it’ll be too difficult for him to fight next September due to the Ramadan holiday. Khan says he plans on fighting in October, November or December. What this means is that for a Khan vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight to take place in 2014, Mayweather will be forced to move off of his previously scheduled September 14th fight date that he set aside for his second fight of 2014. Mayweather wants to fight on the Mexican Independence holiday weekend in September, so he’s either going to need to move to fight Khan or he’ll need to fight someone else.

“I think September will be quite hard for me to work because of Ramadan coming up,” Khan said to BoxNation. “So I think the next time I will be at the end of the year, October, November or December.”

If Khan can’t take the fight with Mayweather, then that might be his only window to get the fight, because you can’t expect a star like Mayweather to bend over backwards to accommodate Khan’s schedule. That doesn’t make sense at all. I mean, Khan is the one that has been harping about wanting to get a fight against Mayweather for ages now, and now that Golden Boy Promotions has picked out the perfect opponent for him to get the Mayweather fight in 33-year-old Luis Collazo (35-5, 18 KO’s), Khan is taking about not being able to fight on Mayweather’s next fight date after his bout this Saturday against Marcos Maidana.

Khan should realize that if a fighter is given a chance to fight Mayweather, you have to take it because that offer may not be there in the future. Look what happened to Manny Pacquiao. He didn’t fight Mayweather when he offered the fight in 2009, and he never got another chance.

Khan then went onto say that he knows how to beat Mayweather, saying “You box him with speed, movement and accuracy. You box him, you don’t try to fight him. That’s where most people go wrong. They try to put a lot of constant pressure on him, but he wants that. He trains for that, because he thinks everyone wants to put a lot of pressure on him and hurt him. The way to beat him is to box him, make him come forward and miss.”

It would be easier to take Khan seriously if his record wasn’t 2-2 in his last four fights. It’s hard to look past a poor record like that. When you see that, it makes one think that Khan doesn’t have the foggiest idea in how to beat Mayweather.
