Now with that out the way lets begin with some rather interesting facts. Did You Know…that a boxer by the name of Reggie Strickland fought from 1987-2005 in every division from lightweight all the way up to heavyweight? He was the most active fighter of his time, engaging in almost 363 recorded fights. He ended up losing 276 of those fights—the most losses ever recorded! Out of those losses he only got KO’d 25 times.

Did You Know… Jem “The Gypsy” Mace  holds both the record and honor of being the oldest man to ever engage in a professional bout at the age of 66? He fought Mike Donovan to a draw at the Olympic Club in the U.K. on September 3rd, 1987. He  won British titles from welterweight all the way up to heavyweight. He also established the Australian school of boxing, which helped develop the talents of fighters such as Bob Fitzsimmons and Peter Jackson. Maybe Bernard Hopkins will read this and go out to set a new record…. just kidding, lets hope not.

Did You Know… Terry McGovern knocked out and destroyed 3 champions from 3 different weight classes in just 9 months?!!! He KO’d Pedlar Palmer in the 1st round at bantamweight. Then went off to KO George Dixon 4 months later at featherweight. Then Terry went off to face the man that just knocked out Joe Gans for the lightweight title, Frank Erne. What did Terry McGovern do next? Knock Frank Erne out for the lightweight title all in the span of 9 months!

Did You Know… Henry Armstrong held 3 universally recognized titles simultaneously?  Beating champions from featherweight, lightweight, to welterweight. A feat never to be matched. This fact is one that some of you might know.

Did You Know… Harry Greb won 45 consecutive fights in 1 calender year? To put that in perspective, Floyd is currently 45-0 with a career spanning nearly 2 decades. Harry Greb accomplished the same feat in 1 year! Granted he didn’t face the amount of champions Floyd has during that span. Along the way Harry Greb won against plenty of hall of famers and 1 hall of famer twice. In the process he became ill and cancelled 3 fights came back only to break his hand then came back again to finish off the year! Incredible.

Did You Know… Albert Griffiths the defensive genius, went on to win 174 consecutive bout without a loss? From 1887-1894, Griffo didn’t always “win”—as he fought hundreds of no decision bouts where a draw is declared if no one is knocked out—but he wasn’t officially defeated, either, for the first 174 bouts of his career. This includes draws, wins, no-contests, everything but a loss. It is still a testament to his defensive capabilities.

Did You Know… that I have now become one of your favorite writers?

Ok all jokes aside there are a lot of amazing facts to be fed and dished out to the next fan. So with this I’d like to ask you the reader to put out your version of “Did You Know?” for all of us to read and discuss. I’d love to hear what you have to say.
