Chisora: Fury will be running from me and I’ll hunt him down

chisora5645By Scott Gilfoid: #2 WBO, #5 IBF, #8 WBC, #13 WBA, Dereck Chisora (20-4, 13 KO’s) expects to see Tyson Fury (22-0, 16 KO’s) running from him instead of standing and fighting in their fight on July 26th, and Chisora says he’s going to cut off the ring on Fury to force him to exchange punches. It seems that Chisora’s confidence has sky rocketed after beating 5 mostly Euro level heavyweights since his knockout loss to David Haye, and he now fancies himself as a knockout puncher rather than just a short hard-worker with medium power, and not much of any outside game to speak of.

“He [Fury] won’t be able to stand the heat that I’m bringing to him so he’ll definitely be leaving my kitchen the ring, once I start turning up the heat. Fury is like a rabbit, he’ll be running, but I’ll hunt him down and eventually catch up with him and then it’s game over.”

It’s interesting how Chisora describes this encounter in food terms. I’m not sure that he realizes that he’s unconsciously talking about food. I mean, for a fighter who has overweight and flabby the last time he and Fury met in the ring in 2011, you would like to see Chisora not talking about food and focusing more on the fighting aspect. Chisora lost his only chance of beating the 6’9” Chisora by coming into the fight a fat 260lbs. Can’t Chisora talk about this fight without mentioning food?

Chisora has since gotten more dedicated with his career, but he also was beaten three more times by Robert Helenius, Vitali Klitschko and Haye. After the loss to Haye, Chisora was backed away from fighting high quality opposition and put in with 2nd tier heavyweights, and not surprisingly, Chisora and flourished. Fury is obviously a 1st tier guy, albeit a fringe type of heavyweight, but he is definitely a 1st tier fighter. You would have to expect Chisora to be exposed once again and shown his limits by Fury in a fight that promises to be another one-sided affair.

Chisora doesn’t think he’s the same guy that was beaten four times in the past, saying “That was three years ago and I’ve reborn as a fighter since then. Trust me, when you see what I do to Fury this time, you’ll have to look at the first fight against to see if it’s the same Dereck Chisora.”
I honestly can’t see any difference whatsoever from the first Chisora and the one that exists now. If anything, Chisora looks a little weaker with his punches due to his weight being down.

The one thing I have noticed is that a lot of punches now end up hitting his opponents in the back of the head, and the referees aren’t taking points away like they should be for that. Other than that, Chisora is pretty much the same guy. As I mentioned, his opposition has gotten a heck of a lot weaker since the Haye fight, and that obviously has Chisora looking good. I suspect though that Chisora will show that he’s the same fighter he was in the past when he faces Fury in their needless rematch on July 26th at the Phones 4u Arena in Manchester, UK.
