Vera and Chavez Jr. will be fighting for the vacant WBC Continental Americas super middleweight title.

Vera needs to e very concerned with the judging for this fight because the fight is taking place in Texas where Chavez Jr. is very popular due to his famous father. Vera is from Texas, but he’s not well known like Chavez Jr., and you can expect that most of the fans that will be seeing the fight live at the Alamodome will be fans of Chavez Jr.

The judges already showed last time that Chavez Jr. doesn’t have to do much to get a lopsided win, because they seem to put more value in his harder landing shots than they do the punches that Vera lands. Vera can’t punch like Chavez Jr., because he’s not nearly as heavy. Chavez Jr. will likely be weighing in the 190s tonight after rehydrating over 20 lbs for the fight. Vera will likely be a little over 170 for tonight’s fight, and he’s not going to be able to fight with the same power behind his shots. The only way Vera wins is by the sheer accumulation of shots that he nails Chavez Jr. with.

“I’m going to do the same thing, except I’m going to do it better,” Vera said to RingTV. “I’m going to take the fight to him and go in there stronger. As far as the judges go, I have a lot of faith in the Texas Commission. I believe they’re fair…I don’t expect them to favor Chavez.”

Vera won’t have to go looking for Chavez Jr. in this fight, because he’s already said that he’s going to come right after him and try to score a stoppage win. That’s good for Vera if he can hang with Chavez Jr. and take his best shots in order to land his own power punches. But it’s also bad because if he can’t take his shots then we could see Vera get stopped or dominated. Vera has a pretty good chin, but when you’re talking about him fighting a cruiserweight like Chavez Jr., anything is possible.
