Taking a look at Stiverne’s record

By Bradley Dee: If all goes as planned we have a fight between Chris Arreola (36-3) and Bermane Stiverne (23-1) to look forward to on June 21st in a fight for the vacant WBC heavyweight title in Villahermosa, Tabasco, Mexico, but before that fight happens, has anyone actually stepped back and checked out Bermane Stiverne’s record? I have to say when I did, I was a little amazed. Browsing through his resume you’ll find a list of B, C and D level fighters, but mostly C and D level.

His best win is against Chris Arreola, and he was even knocked out in 2007 by an absolute nobody. Up further on his record, he had a draw with another absolute nobody. Since both of those bumps in the road, his best win before Arreola is a completely shot Ray Austin.

So now you ask yourself, how does this guy get a WBC title shot? Well the more puzzling thing is how the title shot is coming against someone he already beat handily!

Sanctioning bodies are so confused and mixed up these days we have a guy in Arreola fighting for a WBC title against a guy with a mediocre record who already beat him in a lopsided fight. Pretty puzzling to say the least.

After this fight, one of the winners will likely have to face Wladimir Klitschko who’s going to want to unify all the belts, and when that happens, I’m sure you’ll see who the true champion is, and maybe be bored in the process, but at least we’ll have a true WBC Champion again. Are you looking forward to complete unification, or dreading Klitschko as a completely unified champion? Let me know in the comments section.
