briggs6By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBO heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs (51-6-1, 45 KO’s) showed up at IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko’s training session today at the Heavyweight Factory in Hollywood, Florida, and started screaming at Wladimir and challenging him to a fight, according to video at Fightnews.

Briggs then ripped off his shirt and took his shoe off and tossed it at Wladimir, hitting him in the chest while he was sitting down getting his hands wrapped. Wladimir then said “I’m going to make you eat that shoe.”

Briggs said “I train here too. I train here too. My stuff is here. We can do it. What? Make me eat it right now. Make me eat it right now. You better know. Shannon Briggs is back. Wherever you go, I go. Shannon Briggs. Let the world know that Shannon Briggs is back. You aint nothing. You’re fighting bums. I’m outside.

Wladimir then said “Punch drunk. I’m coming. Give me 45 minutes.”

Briggs ended up being pushed out of the gym minus his shirt and one shoe. The shoe was still by Wladimir’s foot when the video ended.

The 42-year-old Briggs is making a comeback after 4 years out of the ring. Oddly enough, the last time he fought was back in 2010 when he lost a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision to Wladimir’s brother Vitali Klitschko in Hamburg, Germany. Briggs took a beating in that fight, and was never competitive.

Even if Wladimir wanted to fight Briggs, I don’t see how he could because he hasn’t fought in four years. If Briggs wants a fight with Wladimir, he’s going to need to start fighting and get some quick wins over relevant contenders under his belt so that he can get ranked high enough for Wladimir to fight him.

Briggs doesn’t have enough time to get another title shot by taking the backdoor method by facing weak opposition like he did to get his fight against Vitali in 2010. To face Wladimir, Briggs is going to need to beat one of the top contenders like Alexander Povetkin, Deontay Wilder, Kubrat Pulev and Chris Arreola. Actually, Briggs is going to need to beat more than one top contender to get a quick title shot. He’s probably going to need to beat at least 3-4, and even then, he’s still going to need to wait along time.

Wladimir is facing Alex Leapai (30-4-3, 24 KO’s) next month on April 26th at the Koenig Pilsener Arena, Oberhausen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany.
