Paper champion in 4 easy steps

By Yannis Mihanos: There is a phenomena in boxing that is called paper champion. Fighters who look credible and formidable enough but they are not.Their whole career is based on image and lies. Until they get what they want: a retirement contract or a retirement big fight. Until then, they must keep ducking opponents who look dangerous.

In this racket there is usually involved  more than one person, it can be their promoter, their coach, their father, or even some other family members.

The following are 5 easy steps to become a paper champ:

1) Build an impressive record 20-0, 24-0, 29-0. Numbers impress and intimidate.

2) Carefully choose the opponents: journey men and hasbeens are the most preferable. The opponent has to be good but not so good and vulnerable not only physically but also financially. Fighters that are past their prime can fall easy into the second category, journey men usually fit into the first category.

3) The impact on public especially in the media. That could play a decisive role for your target:to get that expensive contract. Now that you are getting famous, it is time to create an image:foul mouth, bad temper, eccentric dressing and etc. Basically anything that attracts public’s attention.

4) That’s the final and most crucial step, it’s the make or break step. If you have played all your cards right by now a big TV Channel and an A class opponent should be interested. All you have to do is wait on your call and pray day and night for that final yes to arrive.

So there you have it. Keep me posted about what do you think on the subject.
