Mayweather says he’ll fight Khan if he beats Broner on his fight card on May 3rd

By Scott Gilfoid: Last night, Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) offered Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) a chance to fight on his May 3rd undercard against his protegee Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s). Mayweather not is offering Khan a chance to fight on his undercard, but he’s also offering him a chance to fight for the opportunity to face him later in the year if he can beat Broner. Mayweather told Khan on his twitter that if he beats Broner on May 3rd, then he’ll fight him.

Unfortunately, Khan doesn’t believe him because of Mayweather not giving him the fight after he won his poll on his website. Mayweather had previously said that he would let the fans pick his next opponent. Mayweather never said he would fight the opponent that the fans picked. He just said he would let the fans pick his next opponent. It was Khan’s mistake in that he took Mayweather literally for his word that he would fight him.

Khan replied back to Mayweather’s tweet by saying this on his twitter site: “FM is full of sh**. Just like ‘ my next opponent ‘ Poll.”

If I was Khan, I wouldn’t assume that Mayweather is just playing around with him, because he offered Saul “Canelo” Alvarez a chance to fight on his undercard, and he ended up fighting him in September of last year. Mayweather wouldn’t be offering Khan this deal if he wasn’t interested in fighting him. If Khan beat’s little Mayweather [Broner] on May 3rd, it will give Mayweather no other choice but to face Khan to show him what it’s like to face the real thing. If Khan is too thick to understand that this, then he obviously doesn’t deserve the fight against Mayweather. All Khan has to do is look how Maidana got the fight with Mayweather after beating Broner. Mayweather obviously takes it personal when someone beats Broner, and he’s not going to let them get away with it without getting them in the ring to school them for 12 rounds like he’s about to do with Maidana on May 3rd.

If Khan says no to the Broner fight on May 3rd, then that’ll be the second time in a year where Khan had a critical career mistake. His first mistake was being too slow to understand that he absolutely had to fight former IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander in order to pick up the IBF belt and to show fans that he was still relevant. Khan’s second mistake will be saying no to the Broner fight because he refuses to take Mayweather at his word. That would be the biggest mistake Khan could ever make, because Mayweather might not offer Khan the chance again to get a fight against him. At the same time the chances are high that Khan will lose his next fight against whoever Golden Boy Promotions digs up for him to fight. Khan’s fight against Julio Diaz last April showed that Khan isn’t a safe bet to even beat weak opposition at this point in his career.
