Mayweather getting ready for Maidana clash

By Chris Williams: With his important May 3rd clash against WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) slightly less than 2 months away, Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) is working on getting ready for the fight and he already looks like he’s in fighting shape. Mayweather looks like he’d ready to go out and beat Maidana without a full training camp under his belt. That’s not because Maidana isn’t a good fighter, because he’s certainly a high quality opponent for Floyd.

Maidana is probably the 2nd best fighter in the welterweight division by Mayweaher, and he’s not someone that Floyd Jr. can afford to take lightly. But with that said, Maidana doesn’t have the skills or the talent to compete against Mayweather unless he wants to throw him a bone and give him a chance to land his big shots. Mayweather did that with Miguel Cotto in 2012, and he’s not going to make that same mistake again. It doesn’t pay off for Mayweather to fight the fight of his more limited opponents, because it leads to him taking a lot of unnecessary head shots.

Mayweather wants to avenge the loss for his good friend Adrien Broner as he was pretty badly beaten by Maidana last December. Broner came out looking like Mayweather with his shoulder roll, but he quickly found out that he didn’t have the hand speed or the defensive ability to dominate Maidana the way that Mayweather likely will in their fight on May 3rd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ultimately, what cost Broner the fight was his decision to stand in front of Maidana and try and punch with him. Broner’s ego got the better of him in that fight, because he should have stayed on the move for 12 rounds instead of making things easy for the Argentinian fighter.

Like in all of his fights, Mayweather will have a lot of pressure on him because this fight will be the biggest of Maidana’s career. This will be his Super Bowl, and he’ll be fighting the hardest that he ever had before to try and get an upset. If Mayweather loses the fight, then boxing fans will likely start taking about Mayweather possibly being over the hill. Mayweather isn’t going to let that happen, though, as he’ll be bringing his ‘A’ game on May 3rd to make sure that Maidana is soundly beaten.
