Mayweather: 20 years of hate and jealousy and I’m still standing here

floyd#705By Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) took the opportunity to remind his fans and his haters today that he’s still on top of the sport after 18-years as a pro, and there’s nobody out there that can kick him off the mountain. Mayweather notes that he’s already established an incredible legacy with what he’s accomplished in the sport.

On May 3rd, Mayweather will be looking to add to his legacy in his unification fight against WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mayweather will be looking to show Adrien Broner, who will likely be fighting on the undercard, how it’s done by beating Maidana and giving him a boxing lesson on Showtime pay-per-view and BoxNation in front of a huge worldwide audience.

Mayweather said this on his twitter site today:

“18 years as a professional and I’m still on top, dedicated to my craft. Almost 20 years of HATE & JEALOUSY and I’m still here standing… strong with a smile on my face. I don’t have to speak on my world titles or my boxing record. Just know that when the book is written… there will be only one TBE http://instagram.com/p/lt41p0x3RO.”

Being on the top of the game for so long has made Mayweather disliked by fans of other fighters, because it bothers them that a fighter as talented as him is hogging the spotlight and keeping their heroes from being seen in the same light. Mayweather realizes that there’s a lot of jealously about his talents, but he’s still ready to welcome the fans to come over to his tent and become one of his fans.

Maidana isn’t a poor fighter, and he’s someone that’s going to be giving his best shot. Maidana has proven that he belongs in the ring with Mayweather with his wins over Broner, Jesus Soto Karass, and Josesito Lopez recently. Maidana is fighting at a very high level right now, and he’s perhaps the 2nd best welterweight in the division behind Mayweather.

I would pick Maidana to beat Manny Pacquiao if a fight between them were possible. Maidana has the power to beat guys like Pacquiao and the other top welterweights. But against Mayweather, he’s going to be in for a much different experience. Unless Maidana can cut off the ring and score a stoppage win, he’s going to get beaten in a clinical fashion by Mayweather in this fight.
