Maidana: Can a learning from the past help to beat Mayweather Jr?

maidana0003By Yannis Mihanos: We are back in February 25th 2012, Marcos Maidana is on his first attempt in welterweight division facing Devon Alexander. As the action starts in round 1, Maidana obviously is  experiencing problems: Alexander seems to be too fast to catch and get hit. On the other hand, Maidana seems  awfully predictable and one dimensional. As the  rounds go by nothing changes and Alexander gets a comfortable victory by a unanimous decision ( 100-90, 100-90, and 99-91 ).

In the  years following, Marcos <chin0> Maidana along with his new trainer Robert Garcia gets everything right and with 4 wins in a row, gets the right to fight the pound-four-pound king of boxing Floyd <money> Mayweather Jr. on may 3rd  2014.

That is  by far his biggest challenge. But can he pull one of the biggest upsets in recent boxing history? Maidana and his team look confident enough that he can.

But to do that he must surprise Mayweather not with some lucky punch but with a complete set of tactics. His trainer Garcia has certainly added a few more angles on his game.I noticed that in the match against Adrien <the problem> Broner: Maidana could move better and he looked stronger.

People to beat Mayweather try to watch and study his previous encounters especially the ones that he had trouble with. They do that with the hope that they can find a flaw or a weakness in order to exploit .

His last 2 opponents Guerrero and Alvarez both had a great camp  but  certainly didn’t get any benefits from doing that whatsoever. Both training camps tried to exploit what they thought of as weaknesses of Mayweather and we all know what followed…Floyd beat them both comfortably.

So  past not always teaches you the right lessons. It depends what you are searching and where you are looking  and if you are able to find it and use it accordingly.  Because it can be easier said that done.

In life the best way to learn is from our mistakes and failures, so past can be an invaluable tool if it’s used properly. Learning from others can be useful too but not near as it is from ourselves.

Maidana must try to learn from himself. Garcia and his team must watch closely all his  losing fights especially the one against Alexander because I believe that fight has a lot of Learning for Maidana .  Alexander belongs to the same school that Mayweather belongs, you know  what I mean by that: dancer, elusive, stylish, fast and etc. Also, Maidana and his team can look on what Porter did to Alexander as of further help.

Many times in boxing I see  coaches shouting and screaming at their fighters during the match but their fighter cannot follow what they say. After all, if it was so simple anyone would have been a champion, anyone would have been a Mayweather, Pacquiao, Martinez, Tyson, Leonard and etc. but the truth is only a few can get it right and are those few who become Champions.
