Maidana needs more than bricks to beat Mayweather

maidana8444By Steve Davis: So Sergio Martinez, Argentina’s middleweight king has recently come out in support of his compatriot Marcos Maidiana chances of beating Floyd Mayweather on May the 3rd in Las Vegas. Martinez stated that WBA welterweight champion had a fair chance of beating Floyd, if he could cut down the ring and throw massive amount of punches in each and every round. He said that Maidiana had two bricks in his fists, which in fact will boost his chances of victory.

Maidiana does in fact have a punchers chance, but I think Maidiana more wears people down rather than knocking them out with one punch. In his last fight Maidiana couldn’t knock out Broner, tho he did have him down and in trouble several times. Mayweather is properly the greatest defensive fighter ever, he has only been down officially once, early on his career, when he broke his hand.

Zab Judah had him down but the referee ruled it a slip, Shane Mosley caught him with a big punch but he didn’t go down. Floyd was in trouble against Demarcus Corley after taking a big punch, but he just covered up on the ropes and recovered. Mayweather knows how to survive, he is a defensive genius. So how is Maidiana going to trouble Mayweather let alone cause a knockdown.

Mayweather will use speed and movement to nullify any of Maidiana’s attacks. Roberto Garcia, Maidiana’s trainer has said that his fighter is training to throw a hundred punches per round. That will take some doing plus Maidiana’s also got to worry about Mayweather’s offence. I’m sure Maidiana will have his moments but it won’t be enough, Mayweather will roll the shoulder, making Maidiana miss before delivering bursts of flashy combinations to catch the judges eyes.

Maidiana needs more than bricks in this fight, he will need a miracle if he is to win and stop the lopsided 12 round decision defeat he will receive. Mayweather knows exactly what he’s doing, he wouldn’t have chosen Maidiana for this fight if there was any chance of the Argentinian fighter winning and that my friends is a fact.
