Maidana is too slow for Mayweather, says Judah

maidana68904By Chris Williams: Zab Judah is picking Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) to beat Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) in their fight on May 3rd. Judah thinks Mayweather’s hand speed, accuracy and defense will be far too much for the slower Maidana to handle in this fight. Judah also thinks that Adrien Broner could have beaten Maidana in their fight last year in December if Broner had come into the fight in top shape the way he needed to be.

Judah knows fully well what it’s like to be in the ring with Mayweather because he fought him 7 years ago and lost a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision by the scores 119-109, 116-112, 117-111.

“I think Marcos Maidana is too slow,” Judah said to Hustleboss. “I think Adrien Broner would have had him if he was in shape. I think him fighting Floyd is a whole different situation. He’s going to come in there with great speed, great timing and accuracy.”

Maidana will need to find some hand speed somewhere by May 3rd for him to be able to compete against Mayweather, if that were possible. Even if the Argentinian fighter did have the speed to compete against Mayweather, he still wouldn’t have the boxing skills to make it an interesting fight. We saw how Mayweather was able to dominate Judah in 2006 even though Judah was just as quick as him. A faster Maidana would be just like another Judah or Amir Khan, and neither of those guys can hang with Mayweather.

The problem that Maidana has for this fight is that he’s not going to be faster, and he’s not going to be able to do the same things to Mayweather that he was against Broner last December. Mayweather is the real thing and not the knockoff copy of the genuine article. Maidana beat little Mayweather last December in defeating Broner, but he’s not going to be able to do the same thing against Mayweather.

Once Mayweather gets started, he’s going to have Maidana looking as bad as he did Saul “Canelo” Alvarez last September. I rate Canelo as a better fighter than Maidana, and yet Mayweather was able to effortlessly beat Canelo. That wasn’t even a fight after the first three rounds when it became clear that Canelo didn’t have the skills to make a fight of it.

The only thing that Maidana can do in this fight is come out with with his foot all the way on the accelerator in the 1st round and close his eyes and swing for the fences against Mayweather. Maybe if he puts everything he has in each punch, Maidana might get lucky and put Mayweather on the canvas for the 10 count.
