Khan: Should I put Broner in his place?

By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) took shots at Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s) on his social media site today, and asked him to have one of his management representatives contact his people so that they can get the ball rolling for a fight on Floyd Mayweather Jr’s undercard on May 3rd. Broner responded to Khan’s trash talking by saying on his twitter “I’m ready to beat the f*** out of Amir Khan Khan.” This didn’t sit right with Khan, who then open up with both barrells in trash taking Broner with photos of from his beat down against Marcos Maidana last December.

Here’s some more interesting stuff from Khan:

“Just got told Broner doesn’t run his twitter page. He can’t read or write. It’s probably one of his stripper girls hyping it for him. If Broner wants to fight me I’m ready. Please can you get your legal team to reply to my team! Broner, No point hyping a NO fight on twitter. I put a call in and your team are not interested in fighting me at 147 next? I am blessed to have boxing fans who support me and if they want to see me shut Broner up. I woukld love to take the fight at 147 lbs. Let’s do this. On a serious note I wouldn’t mind beating up Broner. Is that what everyone wants? Me to put Broner in his place? Dont listen to BS from fighters. Being Broner or [Kell] Brook. I will announce soon who I will fight next and it will be a more creditable opponent.”

Wow, Khan is really going off on Broner, isn’t he? I can’t remember ever seeing Khan in such an attack mode before. He’s definitely off his leash. I hope this isn’t just a case of him flapping his gums without being serious about wanting to fight Broner, because this would be a great fight, and an excellent addition to Mayweather’s May 3rd Showtime pay-per-view card.

There’s talk about Broner fighting John Molina on the Mayweather undercard. I’m hoping that Broner and Golden Boy Promotions come to their senses and realize that they can’t put a mismatch like Broner-Molina on the Mayweather-Maidana undercard, because it wouldn’t be worth watching. I see that as an off TV type of fight where fans wouldn’t have to waste their time watching it. If Broner agrees to fight Molina, it would send a signal to a lot of fans that Broner is retreating from facing the best and is playing it safe with his career. If this is something that Broner is being steered into by Golden Boy Promotions, his adviser or Showtime, then Broner needs to put his foot down and man up and take the Khan fight or at least some decent light welterweight or welterweight that fans actually care to see him fight. I think Lucas Matthysse or Lamont Peterson would be good fights for Broner if he doesn’t want to fight Khan.
