By Allan Fox: Making his second fight of his comeback, 34-year-old former 4 division world champion Jorge Arce (62-7-2, 47 KO’s) obliterated journeyman Aldimar Silva Santos (19-7, 10 KO’s) by a 5th round TKO last Saturday night at the Domo de la Macroplaza, Nogales, Sonora, Mexico. Arce knocked Silva down twice in the fight, once in the 3rd and another time in the 5th. The referee Juan Jose Ramirez did the sensible thing in stopping the fight at 0:41 of the 5th round after Arce nailed the badly overmatched Silva with a flurry of shots.

Silva came into the fight having lost 4 out of his last 5 fights.

Arce is making a comeback in order to try and win a 5th world title. He’s hoping to capture a world title in the featherweight division. However, he’s going to need a lot of help as the current featherweight champions appear much too good for Arce to beat him. You can make an argument that Arce would get weeded out from title contention if the sanctioning bodies made him fight in an eliminator bout against the top challengers. That’s not likely to happen though. Arce will likely get a title shot sooner or later without him to fight in an eliminator bout. He’ll get the title shot just based on being a well known fighter.

If Arce moved back down to light flyweight, if it were humanely possible, he might have a chance of making things happen with his career in winning another title. But he’s not going to do well at featherweight against the likes of Evgeny Gradovich, Vasyl Lomachenko, Jhonny Gonzalez, Simpiwe Vetyeka or Nicholas Walters.
