murray555By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom sport promoter Eddie Hearn is interested in putting together a fight between John Murray (33-2, 20 KO’s) and Anthony Crolla (27-4-1, 10 KO’s) on April 19th at the Manchester Arena, in Manchester, UK. Murray and Hearn both want the fight, and it looks like Crolla is up for it as well. Murray destroyed John Simpson by a 2nd round TKO last Saturday night on the Ricky Burns vs. Terence Crawford fight card at the Scottish Exhibition Centre, Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom.

“I’m really up for a fight fight, and Anthony Crolla on April 19th is the one that’s offered,” Murray said to Sky Sports. “I think I’m the more powerful man, and I’ll win and win by stoppage.”

There’s no question that Murray is the much bigger puncher of the two, and I’d be surprised if he doesn’t run over Crolla much like s speed bump in the road. Crolla has had a few decent fights against Derry Mathews and Gavin Rees, but I thought Crolla lost all three of those fights, even though he was given a decision in two of them. Not sure why Crolla is given the benefit of the doubt in fights where he appears to lose, but I don’t think he’ll get to the final bell against a puncher like Murray. He’s clearly a stronger fighter than Rees and Mathews, and he won’t let Crolla hang around until the final bell and maybe get lucky for a third time in terms of getting another controversial decision.

Hearn said “That’s the fight I want. April 19th, I’d like to see Crolla vs. Murray.”

I’ve not been impressed with Crolla’s fights. He fights well enough to lose by 4 or 5 rounds when facing decent opposition, and he’s got no power at all.

Murray has lost a couple of fights against Kevin Mitchell and Brandon Rios in the past, but those guys can punch a little and Murray fought the wrong style against them. I think he would have a good chance of beating either of them if he used a strong body attack and and didn’t just stand there in front of them for 12 rounds. I like where Murray is right now with how he’s fighting than either of those guys.

Crolla has won his last two fights against Stephen Foster and Gavin Rees since his controversial draw against Mathews last year. Like I said, I had Crolla loosing to Rees last year in June, so I basically see Crolla as someone who has lost 2 out of his last 3 fights.
