Groves: I’ll put Froch to sleep if he punches me outside of the ring

groves455By Scott Gilfoid: George Groves (19-1, 15 KO’s) wants IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (32-2, 23 KO’s) to be officially reprimanded by the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) for Froch having given him a shove at their pre-fight press conference at the Wembley Stadium two weeks ago to announce their fight on May 31st in London, UK. Groves is concerned that Froch may choose to put hands on him again during their face offs in the next month.

The last thing that Groves wants is for Froch to take a shot at him which would cause him to fire back with a punch to the head of Froch, causing bloodshed. Groves is saying that he’ll knock Froch out if he punches himself out of the ring.

“If I have to meet him 3 or 4 times before and do a face off with him, I don’t want to be standing there with him waiting for him to throw a punch at me, because if he throws a punch at me, I’ll put him to sleep and where does that leave me?” Groves said to IFL TV.

I don’t see why Groves should worry about. If Froch wants to go ape and start hitting Groves each time they get near each other, then Groves should let him. Froch will be in a mess of trouble if he does that, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the fight got called off.

If Froch can’t handle a simple face off and a little trash talking without putting his hands on Groves, then he needs to be in anger management classes to learn how to control his temper. Groves should just let Froch do whatever he’s going to do, and then let him face the serious consequences. Froch already put his hands on Groves once, and coming events casts their shadows before. In other words, if Froch did it once, there’s a chance that we may see his violent behavior show itself again outside of the ring. But like I said, Groves should just let Froch do whatever. If he wants to body slam him, then let him. It’ll be Froch in a mess of trouble while Groves comes off looking the innocent victim.

What we ultimately made need is a fence between the two fighters to keep Froch from going after Groves again. I’d hate to see a fence between the two fighters, but I’d also hate to see the much quicker and stronger Groves from laying Froch out with a right hand with no glove on. Groves is the faster and stronger guy, and he’d likely hurt Froch if he hit him with his bare knuckles in response to Froch snapping him again and putting hands on him after some simple banter on Groves’ part. Ideally, the 36-year-old Froch should be able to handle a simple face-off with a guy as young as Groves without the need to resort to getting physical. That’s why a fence might need to be put up between them if Froch can’t control himself.
