Froch confident he’ll stop Groves

froch75By Scott Gilfoid: IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (32-2, 23 KO’s) was the beneficiary of a controversial 9th round stoppage win over George Groves (19-1, 15 KO’s) the last time they fought in November last year when the referee jumped on Groves during a give a take portion of the 9th round and halted the fight. On May 31st, Groves and Froch will do it again but this time at the Wembley Stadium, in London, United Kingdom.

“I’m going to win the fight definitely, 100 percent,” Froch said. “I can’t see it going the distance. That’s the prediction: Carl Froch to win.”

I have a feeling that Froch’s win over Groves from last time has gone to his head to the point where he thinks that another win is in the bag for him.

Froch seems to have forgotten that the referee jumped on Groves while the fight was still very much up for grabs, and halted it needlessly. I’ve seen the replay of that stoppage 100 times, and Groves was perfectly fine and was just covering up after Froch bumped into him. The referee mistook Groves being knocked back from a bump for him being hurt, and chose to halt the fight from that. I think Froch is going to forget all about his defense in this fight and end up walking into a big head shot that puts him down.

Like last time, Froch will get back to his feet. However, I see Groves finishing off a badly hurt Froch and not letting him escape the round like he did last time when Groves knocked Froch down near the end of the 1st round. Had the knockdown taken place early in the 1st, Groves would have finished Froch off straightaway.

Groves’ trainer Paddy Fitzpatrick expects to see a much better Groves than the one that faced Froch last time. Groves got a lot of confidence from facing Froch last time, and he knows he can hurt him. “I believe that the conviction that we have from the first fight, you’ll see a far better Groves this time.”
