The knockout was so quick and so final that many fans are having a difficult time trying to digest what Deontay did in winning so easily at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez, Bayamon, in Puerto Rico.

This is the same Malik Scott who was beating Dereck Chisora until getting hit with a rabbit punch in the 6th round of their controversial 9 count fight in July of last year. This is the same Scott who held Vyacheslav Glazkov to a 10 round draw last year in February in a fight that many boxing fans saw Scott winning.

Deontay took his time in knocking Scott out. He followed him around the ring for much of the round without committing to a punch, and looking fort the right moment to spring on him like a snake. Once Deontay had Scott by the ropes, he unleashed a beautiful left hook to the head that knocked Scott senseless. Deontay then followed up with a nice right hand for good measure, although that punch failed to connect with full force like his left hook had. Scott immediately hit the deck as if shot by an arrow. He wanted to get up, but one of his legs was caught on the ropes and he was too hurt to make it back to his feet.

Deontay will now be fighting the Chris Arrela – Bermane Stiverne winner for the WBC heavyweight title in his next fight this year. Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer is already looking to find a venue for Deontay’s title fight against Stiverne or Arreola.

“America has the future of the heavyweight division, no question about it,” Schaefer said via ESPN. “That was impressive. The title fight is the next stop and I would love to do it from the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Bring those heavyweight titles back home. This is the next Mike Tyson. He’s going to bring all these titles back home. Every single time this guy delivers. He is ready to fight for the title. He was born ready.”

I totally agree with Schaefer. Deontay was very impressive, and he definitely delivers every time out. How can you argue with the kind of success that Deontay’s had? He’s knocked out all 31 of his opponents, and he’s on his way to breaking the record for most consecutive knockouts in the future. Bringing back the heavyweight titles to America is going to make Deontay a huge star that the U.S hasn’t seen since Tyson’s day.

You’ve to feel sorry for Malik Scott, though. He got in the way of the Deontay express tonight and he got run over. I think Scott would have beaten most other heavyweight contenders had he been in with someone less perfect that Deontay, but the problem is he picked the wrong guy to be tangling with.
