deontay1By Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KO’s) is amused that his many detractors are looking for different reasons to try and explain why he was able to knockout Malik Scott (36-2-1, 13 KO’s) so easily last Saturday night in Puerto Rico. Some fans can’t comprehend that a fighter like Deontay can knockout an opponent so easily.

Instead of realizing that Deontay has the kind of one-punch power that makes him capable of knocking out his opponents with a single shot, fans are seeing something sinister going on with them thinking that the fight was fixed with Scott throwing the fight on purpose for money. It just goes to show you how some fans have wild imaginations and can’t quite grasp the reality of what they’re seeing in Deontay.

“It’s hard for people to accept what they have never seen before or something amazing happening right before their very own eyes,” Deontay said on his Twitter. “It’s like a great magic trick, it can’t be real. People, the power is real so stop trying to find an excuse for me of why God is blessing me for it’s my time, my season. #DontWorryBeHappy.”

The reason why fans can’t believe that Deontay could knockout someone so effortlessly is because there hasn’t been a puncher like Deontay in many years since Mike Tyson was around, so fans have forgotten what it’s like to have a puncher that can KO his opponents in the 1st round over and over again. If you remember that Tyson was halting his opposition in the 1st round quite frequently when he first started his career.

Tyson knocked out 12 of his first 16 opponents in the 1st round, which is pretty incredible when you think about it. He wasn’t just knocking guys out; he was knocking guys out in the 1st round and not even giving them much of a chance to get anything going. But Deontay is showing just as much power as Tyson was, as he’s knocked out 18 of his 31 opponents in the 1st round, and the thing is he’s not even trying to stop them early. Deontay is just boxing them, and when he lands his right hands, they collapse on canvas and can’t get back up.

We’re going to see really soon whether Deontay’s massive power can level a good heavyweight when he faces the winner of the Chris Arreola vs. Bermane Stiverne fight later this year. If Deontay’s power is for real, he should be able to KO either of them with ease.
