Ruben Guerrero wants Mayweather to give Robert G. a rematch

floyd#10By Dan Ambrose: Robert Guerrero’s rather, Ruben Guerrero, thinks Floyd Mayweather Jr. is afraid of his son, and that he showed his fear by failing to go toe-to-toe with him like he promised to do before their fight last year in May.

Ruben thinks Mayweather should give Guerrero a rematch so that he can beat him. Ruben doesn’t say what would be different in the rematch, but one gets the sense that he’s hoping that Robert will be able to convince Mayweather to stand perfectly still to trade with him on the inside the way that Andre Berto did in his fight with Guerrero.

“He [Mayweather] stood in front of Canelo,” Ruben told Hustlehoss. “He wasn’t scared of Canelo. He’s scared of my son. If he’s a big man about it, he can do a rematch with my son. This time we’re going to train inside of chicken coop with hens and we’re going to catch him. And once we catch those hens, then we’re ready to take him on if he gives us a rematch.”

Ruben can’t be serious about Guerrero training with with chickens. That’s something out of a Rocky movie. If that’s what Ruben would have the poor Robert doing in training camp to get ready for a rematch with Mayweather, then you’ve got to feel sorry for Guerrero. That’s a clear sign that Guerrero badly needs an actual trainer with experience in boxing that can help fix all the flaws in his fighting style. Of course, there isn’t a trainer on this earth that would be able to help Guerrero improve enough to defeat Mayweather in a rematch. Guerrero is just too slow, too weak, and too upright to have any success against Mayweather no matter how many times they fight.

It’s safe to say that Mayweather will never bother fighting Guerrero again. The pay-per-view buys for their fight last year where underwhelming, and Guerrero didn’t do a good job creating interest in the fight. He went got arrested in New York for carrying a pistol with him at the airport, and he spent too much time talking about religion instead of what he was going to do to Mayweather in the ring. Guerrero’s father Ruben did a better job of selling the fight by being so over the top, and kind of wacky with his behavior at press conferences and on Showtime’s Total Access shows.

At this point, I can’t see Guerrero getting another huge fight for the remainder of his career unless he’s able to break his contract with Golden Boy Promotions. If he does that, then Guerrero will likely get signed by Top Rank and end up fighting Manny Pacquiao 2-3 times.
