Mayweather, please do not fight Khan!

khan3434By Bashar Khaddage: With the entire boxing world awaiting Floyd Mayweather Jr’s official announcement on who he fights next, a real fan of the sweet science can only hope he DOES NOT choose Amir Khan. I’m sorry, but no matter how you slice and dice it, Khan is not worthy of a fight with Floyd Money Mayweather.

With the stack of talent from the 140, 147 and 154 pound divisions, a fight with Khan is a bit of a joke. Yes, I understand that Khan is probably the only fighter out there who’s ‘faster’ than Mayweather, but come on, he has done absolutely NOTHING to deserve a fight with the pound for pound king. He’s been knocked out several times, and has done little since his KO loss to Danny Garcia to redeem himself. Okay, so Khan possibly has faster hands, but since when was that alone enough to earn a fight with Mayweather or to even think that alone can beat him? Is it the so-called huge fan base? I’m sorry, I can think of a whole bunch of fighters that are more popular, deserve the fight way more than Khan, and will drum much more interest for Floyd’s next fight.

If it’s down to Khan or Maidana, then without much thought I’d rather watch Maidana fight Mayweather. The guy is coming off a huge win against Floyd’s ‘little brother’, has TNT power in both fists with relentless aggression, and has evolved much more into a rounded boxer than he previously was when Khan beat him in 2010. The whole getting revenge for Adrien Broner would spark a massive amount of interest.

Given that Floyd Mayweather has only 4 fights left, I honestly do not want a single one to be wasted with a fighter of Khan’s caliber. Had Khan beat Devon Alexander in December for the IBF title, then at least I could see why Mayweather would wanna fight him.

Floyd, please do not fight Khan!
