Mayweather denies betting $10 million on Broncos in Super Bowl

By Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr. has finally come out to quash the vicious rumors that he’d made a huge bet of $10 million on the Denver Broncos beating the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl. Mayweather says it’s absolutely not true. It’s a good thing for Mayweather that he didn’t bet on the Broncos, because they were totally destroyed by the Seahawks 43-8 in a one-sided game from start to finish.

There are constant rumors about Mayweather’s betting, and it gives people the impression that he’s throwing his money away with this habit of hit. He lives in Las Vegas, and that makes it easy for Mayweather to place bets on the various sports teams.

As for Mayweather’s next fight, he’s still not sure who he should pick for his May 3rd opponent. Unlike his last fight against the hugely popular Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Mayweather doesn’t have any easy choice this time. He wants the fans to select from Amir Khan and Marcos Maidana, but neither of those options are particularly interesting to the fans. Mayweather is sure to lose no matter which of the two that he selects.

The only way that Mayweather can please the fans is if he selects someone unexpected like Gennady Golovkin or Erislandy Lara next in a fight at 154. Golovkin says he’d come down to 154 to make the fight happen. By moving down in weight 6 pounds, Golovkin could be weak enough to take some of the power out of his shots so that he’s not able to KO Mayweather when he eventually does land something big. Mayweather has superb defense, but he won’t be able to go 12 rounds without getting hit by a fairly high number of hard shots from Golovkin. However, Mayweather probably won’t agree to fight Golovkin or Lara, so it’s going to be Khan or Maidana that he’ll fight.

At the end of the day, Mayweather will probably select Khan to fight next based on his ability to give a lot of interviews to hype the fight. Khan will do a lot of the marketing of the fight by himself in being constantly available to the media to bounce his views off of them. Khan knows that the more he takes the bigger the PPV numbers will be.

Maidana might be too quiet to get the fight with Mayweather. It would be difficult to get as much excitement for this fight, because Maidana shows little emotion, and doesn’t talk a lot when giving interviews. He’s not animated, and it would be difficult for Mayweather to trash talk him like he would with Khan.
