Khan has a better chance of beating Mayweather than Maidana

khan888By Steve Davis: It seems the American fight fans are writing off the changes of British fighter Amir Khan having any kind of chance of winning against Floyd Mayweather, if he is chosen to fight “Money” on May 3rd. Yes, Khan won Mayweather’s poll, to see who the fans wanted Mayweather to fight next. However, Floyd is still to announce who he is to fight next. Why? I believe Mayweather doesn’t what any part of a fight with Khan and it’s nothing to do with pay per view or money.

Mayweather knows what Khan can bring to the table and I don’t think Mayweather fancies the prospects of this fight too much. Otherwise why hasn’t it been announced. Uncle Roger even stated that he feels Marcos Maidana gets the fight. If you actually break it down, the Khan fight is the harder of the two proposed fights. If Floyd fights Maidana, Mayweather knows exactly what he’s up against; a pressure fighter with a big punch. Maidana will come at Floyd in straight lines throwing bombs, which will be blocked or slipped. Floyd will reply with flashy combinations and then hold. There my friends, is the story of this fight.

Maidana will give everything but will loss a wide points decision. With Khan, Floyd goes into unknown territory. He will face speed, movement. Combination punching. A fighter who will come at him from angles, throwing combinations and then will move out of range, Khan’s problems will arise if he stands in front of Floyd and tries and trades. That’s when khan’s questionable chin comes into question. Khan out-boxed Danny Garcia for four rounds until he stood in front of him and got nailed. Again, Garcia hasn’t been too eager to give Khan a rematch.

I can hear the voice of Vigil Hunter on fight night to Amir, ‘Khan, just stick to the game plan, box, move, never stand and trade and you can beat money.’ Mayweather, I feel knows this, Remember what happened when Mayweather fought Oscar de la Hoya, a fight for me de la Hoya should have won, Mayweather struggled with de la Hoya’s speed and boxing skills. The Khan fight is the harder fight, as long as Khan doesn’t get tagged. He could give Mayweather all kinds of trouble.

I also think this is some of the reason why Floyd hasn’t yet fought Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao. Miguel Cotto also caused Floyd trouble. Fighters who are busy, force the pace, but more importantly fighters who box move and have speed, give Floyd trouble. Fighters who throw three four punches at speed will give him a whole world of trouble. After all, Floyd is protecting his 0 and his legacy. Wait for the announcement Mayweather v Maidana, the easier option and a fight Floyd won’t have to lose sleep about.
