Hearn: Burns will beat Crawford

crawford4543By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn thinks WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (36-2-1, 11 KO’s) will be pulling off a big upset this Saturday night against challenger Terence Crawford (22-0, 16 KO’s) on March 1st. Aside from Burns’ own fans, there aren’t too many people giving him any chance in this fight.

Burns is seen pretty much as someone on his last legs walking sluggishly into what will be a one-sided beating that will end with Crawford taking his title from him when the two go at it front of a packed house a the Scottish Exhibition Centre, Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom.

Burns’ promoter Eddie Hearn is sticking with him until the last, and he’s not ready to abandon ship and call it like he sees it by saying that Burns has no chance against the talented Crawford. Hearn is still mouthing that Burns will win, but you’ve got to wonder what he really thinks inside of his head as each day gets nearer.

Things look mighty bleak for Burns, as there’s a different crew of judges working this fight than the ones that gave Burns a gift 12 round draw in his last fight against Raymundo Beltran last September. It’s hard to see anything positive coming out of this for Burns in this fight unless he an somehow get lucky by Crawford suffering a terrible shoulder or hand injury that causes the fight to be halted abruptly before Crawford can finish out the fight.

“I believe Ricky Burns is going to win that fight fight [Crawford[], I really do,” Hearn said to IFL TV.

I really feel bad for Hearn, because Burns won’t be winning this fight, and nor will he even come close to winning it. I believe Burns is going to be little more than a punching bag for Crawford to pound into chopped liver in this fight, and it’s up to Burns and Hearn whether they want the fight to go the full distance or not. I hope for Burns’ sake the Hearn does something merciful like throwing in the white towel of surrender at some point, and hopefully early on. There’s really no point in Hearn letting the beating go on too long in this fight, because you don’t want to see Burns get used up in one fight in taking a needless whipping by Crawford.

Crawford has shown that he’s got the most talent in the lightweight division recently with his incredibly impressive wins over Breidis Prescott, Andrey Klimov, Alejandro Sanabria, and Sidney Siqueira. I’ve said this before but I’ll say it again, I see Crawford as another Floyd Mayweather Jr. in terms of talent and fighting style. Crawford just needs a few minor tweaks in his game to be just as entertaining and identical to Mayweather. When I watch Crawford, I see a young Mayweather, and I think this guy can be a huge mega-star in the near future with the right training. I’d like to see Crawford get with Floyd Mayweather Sr. or Roger Mayweather so that they can put the finishing touches on making him more Mayweather-like.
