Why Khan Deserves the Fight with Mayweather
By Nabil Anwer: So Floyd Mayweather Jr’s two possible opponents are Marcos Maidana and Amir Khan. First of all, let us remember Khan beat Maidana in December 2010 by a 12 round unanimous decision. Some fans appear to want Maidana to fight Floyd, because they feel he earned it. Earned it by beating a much smaller fighter, a fighter fighting two weight divisions from where he should be, Adrien Broner. But Khan beat Maidana. Dropped him on the Canvas. And didn’t wilt under the championship rounds.
Khan is a genuine hero for his fight against Maidana. Maidana hurt him bad, but he still didn’t go down. And Khan did school him for at least 9 of the 12 rounds, making El Chino look foolish and amateurish.
But the most important thing is, who would provide a better fight? It is extremely unlikely either will beat Floyd. But that matters not, if the fight is entertaining. Remember how Floyd embarrassed Juan Manuel Marquez in 2009? Well he would embarrass Maidana even worse.
The Khan fight, on the other hand, will be much better. Mayweather will have to engage Khan. He won’t be able to use his feet to stay out of harms way as he would easily do against Maidana. Khan is as fast as they come.
