By Jim Dower: In a disappointing fight card filled with dull mismatches on Friday Night Fights, super featherweight Juan Antonio Rodriguez (26-3, 22 KO’s) defeated Yenifel Vicente (25-2-2, 17 KO’s) by an 8 round majority decision tonight at the Emerald Queen Hotel & Casino in Tacoma, Washington. The final judges scores were 77-75m 77-75m 76-76.

Rodriguez spent most of the fight chasing the smaller Vicente around the ring trying to hit him with shots. He found it difficult for the most part because Vicente was so quick on his feet, and appeared to be just looking to survive rather than win the fight.

In the co-feature bout, 37-year-old Zahir Raheem (35-3, 21 KO’s) boxed his way to a boring 10 round unanimous decision win over Bayan Jargal (17-5-3, 10 KO’s). The judges scored it 99-91, 99-91, 97-93. Jargal was slow, and missed frequently with his looping shots. It wasn’t until the 10th round where he was able to land a few big punches in the round, but by then it was too late for him to make up the huge deficit.

Former cruiserweight Lateef Kayode (20-0, 16 KO’s) beat journeyman Jonte Willis (9-8-1m 3 KO’s) by a 6th round stoppage. Koyode unloaded with a flurry of punches in the 6th round that caused Willis to turn his back on him. The referee Jeff Macaluso then halted the fight at 1:07 of the round. Kayode looks small for a heavyweight and he’d be better off moving back down to cruiserweight.
