Mayweather Sr. wants to fight Ruben Guerrero in a boxing match
By Dan Ambrose: In what could be a battle between aging trainers, Floyd Mayweather Sr. says he absolutely wants to fight Ruben Guerrero, the trainer/dad of recent Floyd Jr. victim Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero, in a boxing match so that he can knock him out and shut his mouth. Earlier this week, Ruben Guerrero got in Mayweather Sr’s face and dared him to punch him while the two were at a restaurant.
Ruben got really close to Floyd Sr. and appeared to be trying to unnerve him by invading his space and challenging him to take a swing at his chin. Ruben said he’d let Mayweather Sr. get the first shot in. Floyd Sr. was smart enough not to take the swing because it was caught on camera, and he obviously doesn’t need the headaches involved with him being accused of assaulting Ruben.
“Me and him [Ruben Guerrero], there’s no question in my mind, that me and Ruben are going to be in a match real soon,” Mayweather Sr. said to Hustleboss. “A real boxing match, and I’m going to knock him out. I’m going to knock him out cold.”
A fight between Mayweather Sr. and Ruben would be a dramatic mismatch. Ruben doesn’t have the boxing training behind him the way that Mayweather Sr. did. Even though Mayweather Sr. is older than Ruben and that might at least give Ruben a slight chance of beating him. But in just watching Floyd Sr. shadow box, it probably won’t end well for Ruben unless he grabs Floyd Sr. in a clinch and refuses to let for for however many rounds the fight takes place.
Ruben and Floyd Sr. still have bad blood from their interactions with one another during the press tours for the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Robert Guerrero fight last year.
